Information on the400 square feet house.

Well it has been awhile from my last post. I have been out gathering data on the 400 square feet, park model, tiny house we plan to purchase and live in full time. Now I am not an expert but here is why we have chosen the manufacture we have and this size house.

It is my understanding that a tiny house ranges from under 80 square feet up to 400 square feet. You can learn more like I did by reading blogs, watching Youtube videos, and reading books and articles. I have this particular book Tiny House Living: Ideas for Building and Living Well in Less Than 400 Square Feet’ by Ryan Mitchell it is very good. Here are a few more that I am considering buying: ‘The Big Tiny: A Built-It-Myself Memoir’ by Dee Williams, Tiny Houses’ by Mimi Zeiger, Tiny Homes on the Move: Wheels and Water’ by Lloyd Kahn. The point here is educate yourself. If you think you want to build your own tiny house you can purchase house plans or come up with your own creation. I bought a book on compact cabins titled Simple Living in 1,000 Square Feet or Less, Compact Cabins by Garold Rowan. This book consist of all kinds of floor plans and ideas that you can use in deciding how you want your tiny house.

After all of this researching, mainly from October 2015 to August 2016 My husband, Jeff, and I have a plan for our tiny house. One more point to bring up and I will write about this in the near future some more is zoning and codes for building and where you are planing to park your tiny house. There are so many things to think about. The good news is it is fun and a true learning adventure. In our plan we will be parking our tiny house on land leased from our children. Yes they told us that we could put the house there so in a way we will be mooching off of the kids. We will be hooked up to a septic system and we will be sharing their well. So after months of trying to decide what to do with our tiny house and where to put it my daughter and son-in-law said put it here! One problem solved.

The next was finding just the right tiny house. We looked at tiny house builders from all over the world via Youtube. We went to places that built them here in our area. Then we saw HGTV’s Tiny House Hunters and realized we had a park model builder right here! It turned out to be a pretty nice build. So this past week the research continued with a drive to South Carolina to the factory where the park model cabins are made.

Green River Log Cabins ( http://www.GreenRiverLogCabins.com ) is located in Campobello, South Carolina. We enjoyed our visit very much and gathered information and a free estimate. We toured many floor plans that were built and getting ready to ship to there new home. I highly recommend that you look at other peoples ideas for what they want in a tiny house. It is the best way to know what you like and don’t like for yours. We decided that this company was the one for us. A park model is an RV that is 400 square feet or less. With this in mind being a RV the tax situation is different and so we are gathering information on that too. I will write a post just on that too. For now I am just focusing on the house. The construction was excellent and we can choose what counter tops, appliances, and built ins we want. We can get a screened in porch too. The cabins are real logs stacked tongue and groove style. The cabinets are custom  made. The bathroom is full sized and the bedroom fits a queen sized bed.

Please let me know your thoughts and ideas. If you have questions please ask and I will try to answer them. Would love to here from you in the comments.

I have some thoughts. Look at some of the compact technology in RVs and 5th wheels. Great storage ideas, and plumbing/electrical. Insulation is essential. And keep in mind that real logs attract real bugs, carpenter bees and woodpeckers. Natural habitat for them. Not to mention chippies and mice. Just saying

thanks Candy. The house will be treated with pesticide of some kind for ants and Wood bees. We have done our homework there. Also as far as mice and chippis those guys will be taken care of too. Everything is sealed up tight. Thanks for your ideas always welcome and I will post a blog or two on the subjects you mentioned. Great thinking!!!
